I was born in Barcelona, Spain and studied Fine Arts at the Complutense University of Madrid, where I was classically trained in painting, drawing and sculpture.

During my early school years, when I studied the Spanish masters Velazquez and Goya, I became very attracted to what is called "la tecnica del claroscuro" or the light and shadow technique. For a long time my work consisted mainly of drawings in black and white with charcoal or ink inspired by the strength and sensitivity of this technique. Today, while I continue to enjoy working and admiring the mystery and elegance of monochromatic art, my current work takes me in a new direction exploring nature in a more abstract representation through the use of brilliant colors, textures, shadows and organic shapes.

Continuing with the light and shadow technique, I wanted to experiment with other ways of representing it and another materials that I love working with, like wood. I started painting with wood stains and using metallic paints to create negative spaces to represent trees. This is the technique that probably describes best the work that I do at this moment.

Another technique that I am currently focusing on involves painting with grounded metals, such as iron, bronze and copper simulating the natural rusting process. However, rather than illustrating the rusting of objects made of metal, I am using this technique to represent textures such us tree bark and moss on branches and to amplify their colors.

Along with this rusting technique, I am also experimenting by using various media on wooden panels in an attempt to capture the aging process that can be seen on still objects such as old doors and weathered walls. In exploring textures that represent the passing of time, I am trying to evoque memories and to capture the character of old houses that exist today in Spain and throughout Europe.

I currently live and work in San Francisco, California, but I go back to my native Spain each year to re-connect with my origins and to draw inspiration for my art.
